Default Poor audio quality with Windows 8.1 and 7.4 driver

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing poor audio quality after installing Windows 8.1 and DisplayLink 7.4 driver.

Everything is installed in Device Manager and everything works except the audio quality is poor. To be specific, the bass sounds are gone and is replaced by a terrible tearing/breaking sound. It is as if the volume on the speakers is cranked up way to high and the speakers can't handle it, but this happens regardless of volume and is present over the Audio Line out and HDMI audio going to my TV.

If however, I unplug everything and run the sound thru the laptop speakers, everything is fine so I am suspecting the problem lies in the Audio Driver. Before I had Windows 8 in the exact same setup and didn't have any problems.

Hi,

To help us investigate the issue, please download this tool:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269
As soon as the issue is seen again, please run the tool and select "Gather Support Information"

It's also worth trying the "System Compatibility Check" to see if anything is flagged up.

Thanks,
James
