Default Microsoft Surface 2 pro and MB168B

Before I pull my hair completely out and spend one more minute trying to troubleshoot a problem for free (already 6 or 7 hours on various machines) I thought I would see if there is help out there.

First, it would be nice if anyone from Displaylink would actually respond to my trouble ticket. I don't even get a response like - "hang on, we are busy".

I have the new surface running 8.1 and the Asus MB168 USB3 monitor. I think the problem is that even though the system thinks the drivers are updated to 7.5, when I check device manager with the monitor plugged it, I see that it is 7.4.5314.0. Maybe that rounds up to 7.5 in some strange way but, it doesn't seem like 7.5 is actually loading from the exe. when I attach the monitor it flashes faintly and my tablet jumps around and beeps.

I get a note popup that says the drivers are not up to date. and when I can steady my mouse to check the display drivers they definitely show the old driver number. I have uninstalled the drivers and core (I think) and ran the cleanup program and I am still stuck in the same place.

I get weird reactions from an AOC monitor as well that I stole from a buddy (gave it back). It actually kinda sorta works but not consistently.

Any thoughts out there?

Default Issue is Power

The issue is not the driver... it is power...
this monitor & driver work on the original Surface Pro but not the Surface Pro 2 because the USB port is not putting out enough power to boot it up.

See these two other forums describing this:

You are welcome!
