Default HP 3005PR keeps installing

Hello,
We have a 100+ HP 3005PR USB docking stations in our company.
We've installed the DisplayLink software version 8.1.843.0.
The portreplicator works after the installation. When we go from one portreplicator to another windows is going to install the drivers again.
Is this by design? All the portreplcaitors are the same, so why is windows installing the drivers again each time we move to a new portreplicator.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Best regards,

Sander

Hello Sander,

This is by design of Windows, yes, unfortunately.
You can see that if you connect the same peripheral (like a USB drive, mouse...) to different USB ports of the same machine, it will create a new installation.

The way Windows works is that it kind of does a driver instance per connection path (port), per device serial number.
Windows doesn't look at the model for the full machine.

Kind regards,
Alban
