Default kdenlive makes Displaylink go bad

I had been using version 5.1 with good success for a few months. Yesterday I wanted to edit some video clip, and started kdenlive. Immediately the audio coming in to my display (DELL U2410) started to produce 'holes', and the CPU usage went up to 100%.
To be noted: WITHOUT any video processing, just starting the program. Closed the program, and the audio interruptions prevailed.
This morning, from a fresh cold boot, the same: until starting kdelive everything was fine. When starting kdelive, the same happened again. The menu of kdenlive was even unusable.

Upgraded to version 5.2, Unfortunately, only slightly better: The menu was responsive, and the CPU usage not stuck at 100%. Unfortunately, the audio problem popped up immediately, and didn't go away until a fresh start.
