Default Windows 8.1 display link wont install

I have a new Windows 8.1 laptop and I'm trying to installed the current Display Link release 7.6M1. I'm able to download the software but when I try to install it nothing happens i.e.now install screen and no error messages. I then tried installing the drivers that came on the CD with my AOC USB monitor but the software wont install because it incompatible with Windows 8.1 Anyone have any suggestions on how I can install the software so I can use my USB monitor again?

Lightbulb From DisplayLink Support

1) Unplug docking station.
2) Go to “Uninstall a program” in Control Panel
3) Find DisplayLink Core Software and uninstall this program.
4) If needed, DisplayLink Graphics and uninstall this program.
5) Reboot computer.
6) Save and run the DisplayLink Install Cleaner from http://displaylink.com/techsupport_f...ll_cleaner.zip and reboot after.
7) With the docking station still unplugged, download DisplayLink driver version 7.6 M1 from http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php.
8) Once Saved, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
9) Reboot computer.
10) Connect all peripheral devices to the docking station.
11) Plug in the docking station's power adapter and then connect the docking station to the laptop's USB 3.0 port. The Windows drivers should automatically update and the screens may refresh. This process may take a few minutes.
12) Reboot computer.
