Exclamation D3100 on Ubuntu - issue with fractional upscaling

I have a couple small but high density displays connected to my D3100 docking station that I absolutely need fractional scaling on to use (I'm not an ant, cannot see tiny text )

Unfortunately, using scaling in Ubuntu's display settings causes it to not just resize and enhance the dpi, but also make windows and other objects go past what is actually the workable range of the display (overscanned? can't remember the term)

Using the open drivers, and it's only the displays on the docking station having this issue.

Anybody aware of a possible fix? This is a total dealbreaker for my usage case...
