Thumbs down DELL D6000 - Chrome OS issues

Posting this thread in the Linux and Open Source sub-forum as there isn't one specifically for chromeos.

We tested then bought 60 Dell D6000 for our schools so that teachers could Dock their Chromebooks and connect to touch panel boards. We bought them on the understanding that the necessary display link drivers come preinstalled in the chrome OS. (Surprising therefore that there is no specific chromeos sub-forum).

Mostly the docks work well, however we have one big issue which is that sometime when un-docking and then docking again, we get no video output to the displays via the HDMI. We can see that the board is connected (via HDMI to the dock and usb-c to the Chromebook) and recognised by the Chromebook, but the screen image will not mirror. Strangely, we can display an extended image, but no mirroring. This problem can only be resolved when we reboot the Chromebook. Clearly, this is a huge inconvenience when you have a large class of children waiting for the start of a lesson.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? We have tried fiddling with the settings on the board themselves but this hasn't resolved the issue thus far.
