Default updated drivers for linux

I just bought a displaylink certified unit, after seeing online that linux is supported. I've now attempted to both install binaries from previous iterations of ubuntu, and tried to build them myself (according to http://mulchman.org/blog/?p=90). This however have so far been unsuccessful, could you please either provide installation/build instructions for recent flavors of linux?
