Ubuntu 16.04 mouse flickering

I have also opened a bug with Ubuntu where I was asked to cross-post here.

Please see attached support log for more info. It is very hard to capture the behavior using screencast because, despite the mouse flickering on the (sometimes laptop, sometimes external) screen when I tried capturing it using a screencast, it did not show in the generated video.
