Default DisplayLink DVI-I-1-1 not detected by MDM

I'm using displaylink with linux (Mint) and recently updated to displaylink-driver-1.3.52 . That seems to have fixed the redraw issue and I'm now moving to the next.

When the system boots the MDM fails to properly use the second display selected in mdmsetup.

I add the following lines to the end of the /etc/mdm/Init/Default

xrandr | grep connected > /tmp/test.txt

it displays

eDP1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 294mm x 165mm
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

as a logged in user the xrandr | grep connected displays

eDP1 connected 1920x1080+0+1080 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 294mm x 165mm
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1-1 connected primary 3840x2160+1920+0 1600mm x 900mm

Can you give assistance getting the DVI-I-1-1 recognized by the mdm user?
