Default Displays keep going to sleep with Targus Dock and Macbook Pro

Hello all,

i have a MacBook Pro (13 inch, 2020) running von macOS Catalina 10.15.6 and a Targus USB-C Dockingstation (DOCK190 more information can be found here).

So far, i installed the Display Link Manager 1.1.0 (Build 54.91) and almost everything is working perfect (USB, LAN, charging) there is just that minor error:

If i close the Lid of my Mac (that is the reason i got a docking station in the first place) the Displays are turning off and on. So far so good. My guess is, the Macbook is switching something.
But the problem keeps reporducing. there is no timespan, no timeout, i can't keep them alive by constantly typing or moving the mouse... something is totaly wrong...

any ideas?

If it helps: the Monitors are Lenovo ThinkVision 24 inch both connected via DP.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

If you are using a DisplayLink Manager v1.0 or v1.1 then its current limitation is lack of Clamshell mode support (aka Closed lid). This functionality is available in legacy drivers only.

Please check the following article for more information: https://support.displaylink.com/know...ntroduction-in

If you wish to revert to classic driver you need to uninstall DisplayLink Manager and install driver 5.2.5 available under the following link: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1636

Instructions how to revert to classic driver are included in the first article that I linked.

Best regards,
Katarzyna

Default Not normal

It is not normal to offer a feature in n - 1 instantiation of your software and then remove it from the current revision. You just dont do it to your customers. Period.

Thumbs down Please fix

I'm having this same issue - at first for some reason the DisplayLink Manager was recognizing my laptop as open, and then suddenly I had the exact same issue as the OP. I don't have room for my 2 monitors AND my laptop to be open. Please add clamshell mode support.

Default Staying tuned.

Following this thread because I am having the same issue. Standing by for an update. Seems as though this beta driver is the only version that works on my current (new) machine.

I had the same problem as the OP in this thread. doing what KatarzynaKowalczyk mentioned fixed the issue. In a previous post edit, i bagged hard on this issue and called it garbage. Well, it's still garbage, but instead of harping about it, i'll just leave some useful info in case anyone stumbles here looking for answers. I hope they help someone.

- If you need clamshell mode, do NOT upgrade your drivers. Just stick to the drivers mentioned earlier in this thread.

- DO NOT upgrade to Big Sur, the old drivers probably won't work. That's per https://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67130

- I didn't see any indication on when they will fix all this, but hopefully it's on a roadmap somewhere. If it's not, it should be.

- What's up with this forum? i mean, i like old school and all, but damn

Angry Poor, very poor and bordering on rubbish...

I have a Targus Dock180 and have no usable external monitor solution.

I'm on the latest Catalina (10.15.7) and I cannot get the legacy drivers to work (at all). Nor can I get the new drivers to work with clamshell. I get that clamshell doesn't yet work, but you now have no workable option.

As I said, I cannot get the old drivers to work, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I assume that installing the drivers, rebooting etc will let me use an external monitor, but it won't recognise anything.

For a $300 docking station, this is a really obvious problem.

Is there any workaround I can use short of returning this device? It's basically useless as it is.

Hello,

We need more information - what exactly is not working with the legacy software?

Also it is impossible to debug driver issues without logfiles so we would appreciate if you could gather those for analysis: https://support.displaylink.com/know...to-displaylink

Thank you,
Katarzyna

Cool Had the same issue

I had the same issue as you did where I couldn't get the Dockstation to use the legacy drivers. Make sure you enable the DISPLAYLINK KEXT
https://support.displaylink.com/know...ticles/1188004

Once you do that, I uninstalled it and make sure that you don't have the dockstation connected. For some reason with the Dockstation connected it just wouldn't recognize the screens. Do a restart or shutdown and then go and re-install the drivers. Let it restart after the install and you should be able to connect it after it boots up. Don't connect it while it's booting. Connect it once you have logged in and everything has loaded.
