Thanks for reporting the crash dumps. It looks like the crashes have a common root cause. I raised a bug on this.

I'd like to add a few log files as well. Since this morning I've had 3 Window Server crashes. I've had a few (no more than 5) ever since I'm using a DisplayLink device with my MBA.

I don't recall doing anything specific or heavy on the MBA. I do recognize a pattern: it happens when I'm in Safari. But not something heavy or a lot of screen refreshes.

Default Possible Kernel Panic Workaround

We've been able to avoid kernel panics on 10.8.4 by using the command:

networksetup -setv6off "NAME OF YOUR NETWORK INTERFACE"

So for us this is, exactly:

networksetup -setv6off "Plugable UD-3000"

Christian, if you could possibly please PM me with this bug number, it would be useful in communicating about some distinct issues in this area we think we're seeing.

Best wishes-

Jeff

The MAC will log you out as the Displaylink drive crash.
For information, I have this same problem.

As I'm using the computer, the screen will appear to freeze and after a few seconds the login window appears. If I log back in, my background tasks are still running though everything in the foreground is lost.

I believe this was the same on DisplayLink 1.x and 2.0 and all versions of Mountain Lion. I'm using a HP NL571AA USB2 graphics-only adaptor.

Hopefully 2.1 can address this, as I've had to stop using the extra monitor.

Is this something that will be addressed in 2.1?

Since it's been another month, can I ping this thread and ask for an update? Will it be fixed in 2.1? Is 2.1 anywhere being released?

Ooookay then...

What about the new 10.8.5? Will this have had any bearing on the issue? Is there anyone out there still running DisplayLink who can confirm if the Window Server crash is still there?

Running 10.8.5 with Displaylink 2.1 driver (beta). WindowServer crash is still occurring and right now it seems that this might be caused by a bug in OSX or so as in the Beta forum Wim replied that a bug report has been filed with Apple.

After updating to Safari 6.1 I noticed that "Top Sites" is not flickering anymore as it used to. I also started using Safari again on my USB display and have not had a WindowServer crash happen. Before this would have already happened thus it would seem to me that the issue has been resolved in Safari by Apple.
