Default Dell 4-in-1 and Samsung ue55ks7000 with One Connect Box

Hello,

I'm trying to get my laptop connected to my new Samsung ue55ks7000 TV.
My laptop is a Dell XPS ultrabook and because it has no HDMI ports I'm using the Dell 4-in-1 (DA100) adapter with DisplayLink.

Before posting this thread I've tried most solutions posted in the KB.

I'm connecting the USB-Dell 4-in-1 device with a HDMI cable to the "Samsung One Connect Box" which is connected to the TV.
The TV reports an "Unsupported resolution" msg and indicates 720/480/60i which is probably some default when it can't detect the resolution of the input device.
The laptop doesn't detect the TV at all, although it flickers, usually indicating the device is detected. The TV also auto switches to the correct HDMI port, eventually reporting the unsupported resolution. The laptop uses 1920x1080@60hz.

I've tested the HDMI cable succesfully and I am able to hook up the laptop using the 4-in-1 adapter to my old TV directly (some Samsung 32 inch) without any issues. Another laptop with an internal HDMI port is able to connect to the new tv using the One Connect Box successfully. So the box is working fine.
My STB is also working fine, connected with a HDMI cable to the One Connect Box. It's running @ 1920x1080@60 without problems.

After several hours of trying everything I'm out of ideas, so I'd like some help please

I'll attach the output from the DisplayLink Support Tool here, I hope this leads to a solution.

Thanks in advance!

Hello NLUser,

Thank you for providing the logs and your patience, this is helpful.

I can see that the driver is using the inferred resolution of 2048x1152. We have addressed that in driver version 8.1 not to use inferred modes at first connect as, even if most monitors support them, TVs are more picky. However, if the TV was first connected with 8.0, Windows has recorded it.

I would recommend you right click on the desktop, then click on display settings, then change the resolution to 1920x1080@60hz which is supported by your TV as it advertises it in its EDID.

Would you please be able to try and let me know if that solves it?

Kind regards,
Alban

Hello Alban,

Thank you very much for your reply.
I'm usure how to apply your fix.

The laptop doesn't seem to know the TV is attached. Furthermore the native (max) resolution of the laptop is 1920x1080 (it doesn't support higher resolutions).
Since the laptop doesn't see the connected TV I can't set a resolution for it.

Note; The TV was first connected using Win10.

I've now removed the driver and installed the latest driver using the links in your signature.
I'll post the results when I tested again.

Meanwhile any suggestions are welcome!

Hello,

OK, let's try something else.
I'm surprised the monitor is not visible in the Windows display settings as we could read its ID and could bring it up (at the wrong resolution). Are you in clone/duplicate or in extended desktop mode? If you right click on the desktop and select display settings, do you see 1|2 on the same rectangle or do you only see 1?

Screen layout is remembered and restored by Windows, not the DisplayLink driver so that's why...

I should have asked this first: what would you like to achieve?
1. The best resolution on each display (and therefore extended desktop is required) or
2. The same content on both (in this case identical resolution is required).

Kind regards,
Alban

Hi Alban,

Thanks for following up so quickly.
I tested again with the steps you provided and I got it working!

I saw the 1|2 and forced the resolution to 1920x1080@60. Worked right away.
So it was probably me overlooking the obvious...

I'm satisfied with this option (duplicate), I only need HD for now.
When I get some 4K content on my laptop I'll try to extend and set the TV resolution to 4K.
I understand how it works now.

Thank you for helping out!
