Default Is DisplayLink dead on current Windows10 (2004)

I recently bought a USB3 displaylink docking station as a gift. It quickly showed the errors discussed in the support forum (Driverframefork-UserMode error, attached displays failing, USB errors popping up, Link). So debugging the most obvious things on the laptop of the person that I gifted that dock (drivers, displaylink trouble shooting guide), no success. I took the dock and attached it to my laptop and had the exact same results. Further debugging, USB2 cables, Ports, USB power saving and PCI power saving. Support case. No solution.
The dock only works around 5 to 30min until it freezes the displays and needs to be reset (best by powercycling, yes has its own powersupply).

In the end I refunded the dock.

But that left me with the impression that the displaylink technology on current Windows 10 (V 2004, or after 2020/05) is non-functional.
So, I'm not even keen on replacing or trying different brands.

(The worst part of it is, that I have to come up with a new gift...)
