Default Choppy movements on 2nd monitor - 2560 x 1440 resolution through DisplayPort

I have a second 27" monitor hooked up and running at 2560 x 1440. It's suuuuper choppy (not just video playback, I'm talking about general UI movements).

Is there a solution to this or is it just being caused by the high resolution?

Default 2560 x 1440

I've posted on this forum multiple times, I have never found a solution for this and as such we will not be deploying display link based systems in our firm.
Using the built in Mini Display port on my test systems works fine, but it defeats the purpose of deploying systems that only have HDMI connected to a larger 2560 x 1440 display.

They are not being completely honest when they say they support this resolution.

econ101 do you mean that the same 2560x1440 resolution connected through HDMI is giving you smoother movement?

I emailed him earlier to ask if he found a solution and he said "My machine has a mini display port on
it, so I'm basically not using the display port in the docking station and
plugging three plugs (USB, MiniDP and power) into the laptop to get it to
work."

So it sounds like that setup is working correctly for him, but the displaylink setup is not.

On my system I have a 27" thunderbolt display from Apple that's running off of my macbook pro's display port. When I move windows around everything is super smooth, like it's running at 60 frames per second or higher. When I drag to the other monitor being run through the display port everything gets super choppy, like it's running at 15-20 frames per second. There is also some screen tearing that occurs.

Should I just assume that the adapter can't run the full 2560x1440 resolution without looking choppy?

Hi mtbaird5687,

It really depends on the screen contents being updated. While moving large windows or for full screen transitions I'd expect this resolution to look less fluid than the native screens or our drivers on Windows.

OS X offers us a less performant toolbox but we're about to release an update that improves greatly the screen rendering. I'd welcome your feedback on its performance.

Yea i'm mainly talking about moving around large windows on screen. The mouse pointer is also super choppy.

I'm interested in the new software release, do you know when that will come out?

The release for Mavericks will come out when OS11 comes out. Then the release for OS11 will come out when OS12 comes out.
