Default DELL XPS and DELL D3100 ISSUES

Greetings,
My Dell XPS 13 laptop and my Dell d3100 docking station all work fine when plugged into my dual monitors. I am running Ubuntu Linux 18.04 LTS Desktop. When I unhook my laptop from the hub, some of the applications don't resize properly, i.e. when I open virtualbox it is WAY too small for me to even use. A few other applications also behave this way. This is ONLY while the laptop is unplugged from everything. While it is hooked up to the d3100 , both of my external monitors display everything, no problem. Any ideas? THANKS!

I have the same configuration. I changed the resolution on the laptop display to match what I use on the external displays as a work-around.
