NVidia GeForce GT 230M

hi all,
I have an HP dv7-3085dx, with the NVidia card above, Win7 64 bit, 8gb RAM, I tried installing the latest windows driver [5.6.31870] (from the website) however towards the presumable end of the installation, there is no "OK" confirmation for the successful installation of the drivers so I'm wondering if the installation completes. (On the side, I tried reinstalling the drivers and I get a message that the latest drivers have been successfully installed.)

Furthermore, on an external viewsonic 24" monitor, connected to the VGA adapter, at 1920x1080, the image seems to be frozen, does not move, no matter if I bring in a video or just an email program.

Any thoughts on what might be going on?
