Default 7.9M4 causes Start Menu not to display (ShellExperienceHost.exe crashes)

I had exactly the same problem with 7.9M3, which was not resolved. I tried installingo 7.9M4 over 7.9M2, but I still get the same error. The Start Menu does not appear and the Application Event log records 4 errors. Unistalling and reinistalling 7.9M2 works fine.

The referenced location (Microsoft-Windows-TwinUI/Operation) does not seem to exist.

Hi Derek,

Do you get this issue if you do a clean install of 7.9 M4?

To do this please follow these steps:
http://support.displaylink.com/knowl...ink-software-o
And then reinstall 7.9 M4.

If you still hit this issue please attach the output from this tool:
http://support.displaylink.com/knowl...to-displaylink

Thanks,
James

I tried a clean install with 7.9M3 (which also didn't work), but cannot recall whether I tried 7.9M4. I'll give it another go an let you know the result.

By the way, Microsoft Update installed 7.9.630.0 which also didn't work (stopped Start Menu displaying). I've installed 7.9M2 again.

After a a clean install, the Start Menu seems to work but I get the following events logged:

I can live without Cortana as long as the Start Menu worksm unfortunately the Search option is also unavailable; that is <WinKey>+<typing> does nothing. This is annoying.

I'll run diagnostics.

Regards

Derek

I've emailed the diagnostic output to technical_enquiries at displaylink.com (Alban Rampon).

Good afternoon Derek,
What you are experiencing comes from Microsoft Windows.
It is being discussed at length on multiple Windows forums without any mention of DisplayLink.
Here is just one of the links available with solution proposal.

You will notice the answer is from a Microsoft employee.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...1-9b88ea4028a6

Microsoft does highlight this comes from a corrupted system.

Regards,
Alban
