Default DisplayLink Monitor Not Displaying anything

Hello,

I have been using displaylink usb monitor 3.0 on my windows and mac systems. I have an ubuntu system now .i went through the steps and instructions for installation . When i connect the usb monitor to the system, the initial AOC screen comes up but then its just blank. i have checked to see if the system recognizes the monitor (lsusb -d) and it does. Please what can i do to have this working like it does with other OS. Thank you

Hi strategybase,

Open a terminal and type:

Quote:
xrandr
You should see something similar to this:

Quote:
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm
1920x1080 60.00*+
1680x1050 59.95
1440x900 59.89
1280x1024 75.02 60.02
1280x960 60.00
1280x800 59.81
1280x720 60.00
1152x864 75.00
1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00
800x600 75.00 72.19 60.32 56.25
640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
These results are from my system... and it shows that I currently have one active monitor on my system with a resolution of 1920x1080.

Now to activate the displaylink usb monitor on your system I would go about doing the following;

Type:

Quote:
xrandr --listproviders
you should see something like this (the text below is the command's response on my computer):

Quote:
Providers: number : 5
Provider 0: id: 0x1b8 cap: 0x1, Source Output crtcs: 4 outputs: 5 associated providers: 0 name:NVIDIA-0
Provider 1: id: 0x25f cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting
Provider 2: id: 0x23d cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting
Provider 3: id: 0x21b cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting
Provider 4: id: 0x1f6 cap: 0x2, Sink Output crtcs: 1 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting
next type:

Quote:
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0
Quote:
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 2 0
Quote:
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 3 0
Quote:
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 4 0
at this point rerun:

in my case the monitor designated as DVI-I-1-1 is my DisplayLink dock

Now you can go ahead and set it up with GNOME's Monitor settings utility or whatever your Desktop environment has for changing your resolutions.

Hope this helps out. Let us know how it works out for you.
