Default Plugable UD-3900 dock - monitor screen freezes, doesn't work

I'm at my wits end here and very frustrated. This docking station was highly rated on Amazon but I can't get it to work with my wife's work laptop (HP Elitebook 850 G1).

I've updated numerous drivers on the laptop, which helped with some initial issues. But now when I connect the extra monitor, it shows the screen for a couple of seconds then freezes. If I disconnect the dock, it just stops working altogether. I went through DisplayLink's Windows troubleshooting page for repeated disconnecting and reconnecting, or freezing.

Now I'm out of ideas so I ran the DisplayLink support tool (results attached). Any thoughts are welcome.

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out.

I have a virtually identical HP notebook here but have been unable to reproduce this issue.

Can you try upgrading to this Intel graphics driver?

Please note that you'll need to follow these steps to upgrade to the newer driver:

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,
James
