Default Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Display Link Crashes Xorg

OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Graphics: GeForce GTX 970M with nouveau drivers

I've done everything describe in this article: http://support.displaylink.com/knowl...ware-on-ubuntu

Install was successful and the service is running. I can even tell th displaylink box is being recognized and at least partially used because I can get network access via it's ethernet port.

As soon as I plug in the HDMI cable to the displaylink box however, my display goes black and I have to hard shutdown to get it back (ctrl+alt+Fanything does nothing)

In /var/crash I have an upstart and xorg crash but neither contains anything I can make sense of.

I believe secure boot has been disabled at this point (I heard that evdi through dkms can fail key signing)

I tried including the crash logs but they are so large my browser practically stops working when I tried to format it. If it would be useful let me know and I'll find a way to get them accessible.

Thank you in advance
