Default Windows 8 CP Nvidia 330M Issue

I have a Toshiba notebook with an NVIDIA 330M card in it. The Preview 2 driver installs fine and seems to work. However, when opening a Metro app that uses graphics (such as pinball or solitaire) the app does not open and registers an error in the event log. Non-Graphical apps seem ok, as do desktop apps.
I have installed the March version of the NVidia drivers (ie the latest drivers).

After experiencing the problem, I rolled back the CP to before the DisplayLink driver install and all was ok again (except that the extra screen doesn't work, of course!).

Thanks,

Shane Michelon

I posted the problem with the Windows 8 CP drivers about two weeks ago and have not yet had any response. Could someone please advise anything on this issue. Thanks.

Default Problems with some Metro applications

We have seen similar issues to this internally. Specifically, we know about a compatibility problem with some Metro applications when our driver is installed. We are currently working on a solution to this problem but are unable to provide a timescale for a solution at the moment.

Thankyou for the response.

Knowing that the issue is acknowledged and being worked on is all I'm after for the moment.

We all understand that this is a Beta operating system and don't expect that all the issues will be immediately addressed, however it does give comfort to know that the issues are being considered.

Please post further info when available.

Regards,

Shane Michelon

Default Update

It has been about a month since my last enquiry. How are we going with the Windows 8 Driver for Display Link?

Thanks James. I installed the driver, which works fine, but the Metro app problem is still present. I used system restore to roll back the driver install, and everything works again (except the display link of course). The event log errors are:

Hi,

What does it mean it works fine? Do I understand correctly that the overall desktop experience using additional screen is OK, but some Metro applications are still crashing? It would be great if we could have detailed information about the state of our software on your machine after the problem occurs.

Unfortunately, if you used system restore, then it means that the driver in use is now the old version again. Would it be possible for you to try the 6.3 release from http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php once more, try to replicate the issue and use http://displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269 to gather debugging information you could send us (attach to the post here)?

Many thanks,
Michal

Default App Error

I have reviewed the event logs and found the error log file.

The Event log detail has already been posted. The test case I used was the Solitare sample app, but the crash occurs on any graphical Metro app. I think it is related to the NVidia graphics card and perhaps the fact the Laptop uses an Intel card as well.

The laptop in question is a Toshiba satellite A660, but I think the problem will occur in many of the Toshiba laptop series using NVidia cards.

When I have more time, I will again install the new driver and run the debug tool.
