Default Dell D3100 stopped working with monitors

My Dell D3100 has stopped working 100% of the time with my laptop.
It does still let me connect my mouse, keyboard and headset via the D3100 however my monitors don't seem to be detected all the time. I do get the display link to detect my monitors but it seems to take 1-2 hours of reinstalling graphics drivers and disconnecting/reconnecting the display link to my laptop over and over again. It was working great and would detect my monitors instantly a few months ago but has become incredibly frustrating to use since (not sure if a windows update of nvidia driver update my have caused this but it has been a presistent issue for months now).

Can anyone suggest any fixes for this? I've fully updated my graphics drivers, windows and the displaylink driver but this has had no impact on my issues. Feel like the only solution is to return my displaylink and try a different brand in the hopes that the same problem doesn't repeat.
