DIsplaylink driver not working - tried everything - help please
Hi all. I have a fresh install of Kubuntu 20.04. Secure boot off, machine is dual boot with Windows & Kubuntu on their own drives.
System info: Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.8 Kernel Version: 5.8.0-59-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM I have followed all the howto's and when I run lsusb -d 17e9: I get no results, however if I run lsusb I get the following: Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0711:5601 Magic Control Technology Corp. USB3.1 Hub Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0b95:1790 ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit Ethernet Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05e3:0620 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB3.1 Hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0951:1718 Kingston Technology Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0c45:7663 Microdia Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05e3:0610 Genesys Logic, Inc. 4-port hub Bus 001 Device 005: ID 8087:0026 Intel Corp. Bus 001 Device 003: ID 5986:211b Acer, Inc HD Webcam Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub The USB ports (And I would wager the LAN port) on this device works without issue. The device also works flawlessly on Windows 10 so its not a damaged device. The VGA & HDMI ports work on Windows but nothing on Kubuntu. If it means anything, I tried this on the same machine under a Ubuntu Budgie install as well with no luck. Here is the link to the device in question: https://en.j5create.com/collections/...roducts/jud380 Any help or advice? |

Pointers...
I would highly suggest you install timeshift. This will allow you to rollback changes quickly to get this installed and working.
Also UKUU installed would allow you to update to a more current kernel. I was unable to make this work at all on 5.8. However, once I got to 5.11 everything started working a bit. There are still some issues I have, but my situation is a bit different. I would start here. |

Hello. If you are like me, I needed to reinstall the drivers twice because TLDR the howto..
1: did you install the prerequisite `dkms` and `libdrm-dev`? 2: did you disconnect the dock before installing the driver? 3: did you reboot at the end of the installation? If true then 1: do you have a folder /opt/displaylink? 2: what happen if you run the installation again? Can you share the ouput? NOTE: I use this dock: https://www.newegg.ca/black-wavlink-...9SIACU96DW6405 Xorg has a bug [fixed] but not available right now in ubuntu/mint (july 2021). You need to keep you laptop monitor opened and active... see: - Thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...r/+bug/1875015 - Comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...15/comments/34 Whould try something like this but with the newest xorg core: https://www.displaylink.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=67148 Last edited by pylanglois; 07-07-2021 at 11:45 AM. |

Thanks all for the response & suggestions. If this is a Magic Control Technology issue then I am in the wrong place. It also seems this is even less supported than Displaylink.
Could someone suggest a device that will work (from experience) |

Just a follow up, I bought a Digitech XC-4973 from a local supplier which specifically refers to DisplayLink folder on the installation media. I installed the Ubuntu driver, restarted the machine, logged in, attached the USB device and the Monitor and it works perfectly.
No link to the device but the name quoted above is as per the packaging. |
