Default Resolution menu inactive

All was fine until my laptop crashed and it automatically re-installed Windows10 and deleted the programs. I can see the display on the monitor, but it is very poor resolution. I managed to find the resolution menu under 'Advanced Display Settings' but the menu is inactive. The laptop display is fine.

I tried to re-install DisplayLink but it said it was already installed.

The screen on my monitor screen also has unused black empty strips beside the display area, ie the display does not fill the screen

I've had a search on the forum and can't see this covered, best Ed

Hello Ed,

Is the fixed resolution something like 1280x1024?
If so, it could be because the device has issues reading the identification of the display and therefore uses a default resolution.
To be sure, could you please use the last link in my forum signature to use our Customer Support Tool to generate the ZIP which will include all debug information?
Then, please post the ZIP file here. Only DisplayLink staff will be able to download it.
This will tell me what resolution is in use at the moment of the logs, but also what led to that resolution being selected.

Kind regards,
Alban
