Default NVIDIA Control Panel will not open

I just noticed that the NVIDIA Control Panel (right-click on desktop > select NVIDIA Control Panel) will not open while I have my 3rd monitor (Sabrent USB + DisplayLink drivers) plugged in.

As soon as I unplug the USB cable for the 3rd monitor, I can open the NVIDIA control panel. If the NVIDIA control panel is open when I plug in the 3rd monitor's USB cable, the control panel closes.

(In case it matters ... technically, the Sabrent is plugged into a Belkin USB hub; the hub is plugged into my PC's USB port.)

Is there a fix for this?

Thank you.

I noticed the same. Merely right clicking the Displaylink icon and selecting "off" allows for Nvidia control panel to work however re-enabling Displaylink closes control panel and does not allow it to reopen.

Hi, James.

Just walked through the list. Everything checks out.

To be clear, I am never able to open the NVIDIA Control Panel while the USB display is connected/active. It appears that the NVIDIA Control Panel is trying to open -- my active window becomes inactive briefly, as if the Control Panel was starting to open.

The logs are attached.

Thank you!

Attempting to research this I discovered the issue appears to have some history and even occurs with older DisplayLink drivers on Windows 7 as well.

It actually appears that Nvidia may have hard coded to block the utility if another display device is detected - just a guess. I searched HDD for recent log file that NVidia may have written to during attempt to open the control panel app but couldn't find any evidence to back up my suspicions as yet
