Default How can I remove the displaylink driver - vmware

I was stupid and tried to install the 7.0 drivers into a Windows 7 guest running under VMware. After that, the screen went black. I eventually rebooted and the Windows 7 startup hangs at the Windows startup page before getting to the login prompt.

If I boot in safe mode, I can login, but the Windows installation service doesn't run in safe mode, so I can't remove the DisplayLink driver pack.

I've started to randomly remove files (ones with a date from the time of the install of the displayLink package) from system32\drivers but the VM will still not boot.

Any idea how I can remove the package?

You might be able to clean the install by using the tool in this article:

http://kb.displaylink.com/297

Although it expects all parts of the driver to be present (it uses some files to work out where others are stored) so if bits have been manually deleted, it may not fully work.
