Default Direct3D on Win2k3 Server

Hello,

When I install 5.6 I do not see Direct3D support for the DisplayLink device in dxDiag. I thought I remembered something about needing to install in Safe Mode for this to work (does that still apply?) so I tried this but I get a message after agreeing to the license terms that the Administrator has restricted this installation from running in Safe Mode.

Do I need to run the install in Safe Mode to get Direct3D enabled, and if so is there a link you can provide to getting Win2k3 to allow the installer to run?

Thanks,
Devan

Sorry if I'm being impatient but it has been a week without a response. I know there is a known issue with server 2k8 that you are planning to patch in March. Can you provide insight as to whether or not this is the same issue?

Thanks,
Devan

Hi devanl,

Apologies for the delay. Direct3D will not work on Windows Server 2003. It will only work on windows Vista and Windows 7. More info can be found in this FAQ.

Regards

Hi Pawel,

Thanks for the response. I was really hoping I had found away around my need for support in VM (which the more I look in to the more I understand why you do not). Is there any chance you have plans to support direct3D Windows Server 2011?

Thanks,
Devan

I presume you mean Windows Multipoint Server 2011? ? This is built on the Windows 7 core. It does support Direct3D however there may be issues with some direct X applications running within RDP sessions. There also may be some performance issues. The general MS recommendation is to try it and see.
