Default [solved] slow response between switching applications (evdi)

Dear community,
I'm currently facing the problem that switching between applications (primarily KDE plasma applications) or launching any new applications is very very laggy and takes a couple of seconds.
This hasn't been always like this (it used to work flawlessy).

For instance, when I try to launch a new application through the shortcut "Alt+space" during the input (typing) is taking forever....
or launching a terminal window.

I have an idea that it caused either by "evdi" or "displaylink", because it only ever happens when I connect my laptop to an external monitor through a port-replicator/dockingstation.
When I use my laptop standalone, without any external monitor connected, it reacts immediately.

Do you have any ideas what the root cause could be?
I'm happy to provide any sort of log-event based output, but I don't know where to start.

I've tried re-installing evdi and even switched to evdi-git
I tried re-installing the package displaylink
but neither of those fixed the problem for me.

Maybe it is related to xf86-* package.
Any ideas?

thank you in advance,
theresa
