Default Asus MB168+ 1920x1080 Too Small to see and can't change it

Hello!

Although one of the big selling points of the Asus MB168+ is that it has max resolution of 1920x1080 - I found that on a 15.6" monitor, it's far too small to be useful for most applications. (In looking around in these forums, I've found that I'm not alone in that regard - See post #3 here.)

Anyway, I assumed that max resoultion of 1920x1080 would mean that a lower resolution of 1600x900 would be available. In the screen resolution settings, both my laptop's internal LCD and the Asus MB are available Displays, however, there are only two other resolutions available aside from 1920x1080, both much too low for useful purposes (the resolution below 1920x1080 being 1280x720).

So I guess my first question is...are there supposed to be more than three resolutions available to choose in Display options for the Asus MB168+ ? (i.e. should 1600x900 be available?) - It seems from this thread that, in fact, the monitor should in fact be able to display 1600x900.

Notwithstanding, everything seems to be running quite fine with the set up (as far as all of the things on the HOWTO: Debugging issues on Windows with DisplayLink list is concerned) if 1920x1080 would work for me, that is.

I also have an AOC e1759fwu, that I am able to run from the very same laptop at 1600x900, so I am quite certain it is not a limitation of my Laptop here.

I would happily create a 'custom resolution' of 1600x900 as a workaround, but I ran into a problem in doing so (and perhaps this is where the greater issue lies): Although the Asus MB appears as an option on the list of Displays in Windows Control Panel - Display - Screen Resolution page, the graphics controller/card doesn't seem to 'see' the monitor, so I'm not able to select the new custom resolution for the Asus MB. I'm using an Intel HD Graphics 4000 Card/Control Panel, with updated driver(s).

The laptop is a Toshiba Protege Z935 running Windows 8.1

Is there anyone that could help??

Is 1600x900 available in extended mode? In mirror mode, only resolutions supported by the laptop screen AND the ASUS monitor will be available.
