DisplayLink 1.4
Hello all.
MBA M1 / BigSur 11.4 / Dell D600 / 4k LU28R55 display - one native and one DL. Just upgraded to DL 1.4. In my opinion, this is a more useful version than 1.3 and 1.3.1. The only thing missing is HiDPI over 1080p. But now there are no low resolutions (attached screenshot). I am currently using 2560x1440 (low resolution). The fonts are blurry (than 1440 HiDPI) and this is not convenient at all, but better than 1080p HiDPI for me. Also I found that the mouse cursor lags less (I compared HiDPI 1080p on DL 1.4 with the 1.3 DL versions. At the low 2560x1440p resolution cursor moving is almost native). I also use hot corners to show the desktop and windows at low 2560x1440p disappear almost as native (I don't see a difference from the original 1440p HiDPI), but HiDPI 1080 skips more frames during this animation. So... I'm waiting 1440p HiDPI resolution with same performance as native. All other is good for me (I don't use closed lid, rotation, etc) Hope my review helps someone. P.S. There is still a macOS bug where the dock won't connect after rebooting the Mac (It shows no USB devices. But I have an answer from Kate from DL support that this is an operating system bug and they can't solve it). Last edited by DmitryAE; 06-03-2021 at 05:38 AM. |

Thanks for the update that there is still no HiDPI supported above 1920x1080. Not sure this will ever come by the looks of it.

Looking at my neighbours set up of:
M1->D6000->LG 4k And the interesting part is with just a single monitor connected via HDMI from the dock if you do not load the DisplayLink Manager the Mac has the options of various HiDPI resolutions but at 30Hz. So in this mode he can select 2560x1440@30 Hz HiDPI. If you start the 1.4 Displaylink Driver then all the HiDPI options are removed and replaced with lowres @60hz versions. So to me it appears that its the driver. No idea why with a single monitor the driver removes the HiDPI settings that are available without the driver. |

Also please check if the HDMI cable supports 4k 60Hz. For example, HDMI 1.3-1.4b easily supports 1440p @ 60Hz, but only 4k @ 30Hz. Last edited by DmitryAE; 06-03-2021 at 11:59 AM. |

Just want to add my review.
I've worked a lot the last couple of days and noticed that there is no difference in performance between native 4k (1440p HiDPI) and 2560x1440 (low resolution). I'm waiting 1440p HiDPI with same performance. Thanks. |

Hi Folks,
Here my setup is m1->D6000-> Dell 4k+ LG 4k. Before BigSur 11.4 my setup was showing 4k support, after update to 11.4 it shown only 1080p. I've updated the driver and now I see this low res message, I'm little lost here. Now also, in Mac Info, monitor status is still shown 1080p |
