Heads up: new Ubuntu Linux release coming
Hi guys,
I thought I owe you some news on what is happening to the Ubuntu driver here at DisplayLink. Many of you noticed the recent activity in the open-source kernel module and library, evdi and libevdi, which are vital part of the Ubuntu driver. This is because the team have been busy working on some further Linux-related developments which we will be announcing soon - stay tuned. However, the changes were significant enough that in order to be useful for Ubuntu as well, we do need to release a refreshed driver for the O/S that is compatible again. With Ubuntu 16.04 being released today, we obviously aim for the release to support it, which means playing nice with kernel versions that it ships with. There are also other things that we fixed meanwhile, which were waiting for a release train - they should improve general compatibility and stability of the driver. Although Ubuntu remains the distro we do most of our development and test against, to recognise all the effort the community has put into making the driver usable in other distributions, in the new release we will make it easier to install on something that's not Ubuntu. Thank you for your involvement in making the installer script more flexible. Finally, the schedule. There are still a few bugs that we would love to fix for this release, to make the overall experience better. This means that while we will be late to be ready for 16.04 launch date, we expect to have the driver available soon after - in coming weeks (I personally cross fingers for first half of May). Thank you for your support and warm welcoming of the driver - and, as always - we appreciate all the feedback and encourage to help improve the open-source parts - the evdi project is always accepting pull requests. Best regards, Michal |

This is rediculous. ASUS cant be used in ubuntu 16.04 lts. I am so freakin angry I have to use windows because I cant rotate the screen in linux to portrait mode. Is this even a real company? You took my real money.

Please keep up the good work with improving linux support. Has been working for me on debian for some time now and each new driver shows improvements.

Scaling?
I found the new version of the driver is available today.
I installed it and it (on 16.04 Ubuntu Gnome) and it seems to work! Thanks! There are a couple small glitches, like the mouse pointer leaving little artifacts on the screen occasionally (on both primary and secondary screens). Also, secondary screens seem to be scaled 2X - the resolution seems to be correct but windows displayed on them are twice as big as on the primary screen. Any pointers on how to solve that? |

Another issue
... With the new driver released today, it was working pretty well, until I rebooted.
Now when I plug in the dock and monitor, the monitor is not recognized so I end up with a 1024x768 mode on it, rather than the 3840x2160 mode that I got before the reboot. (and the monitor brand and model was recognized before the reboot). Any ideas on that? |

@jhdl: Please raise this in a separate thread, and collect and attach debugging information for us to analyse. Thanks.
