Ubuntu 18.04.2 and Displaylink 5.2 (broke X)
So after installing displaylink 5.2 I can boot linux and I can see that sddm is started and X is running but I can not find it only any terminal, with or without the displaylink monitor connected, I'm now stuck with a terminal (so at least I can possible repair it). Even stopping sddm and running X or startx does not allow me to get a functional X display this has rendered the Linux installation useless, as I can not even trouble shoot on it since I can not connect to a network (done through X).
I also tried nvidia-xconfig to create a new xconfig file which did not help any. What did the displaylink driver do, if I had to guess it is rendering the X interface in some FB that is not presented on the Displaylink monitor of the builtin laptop screen, but I can not find any way to resolve it. How do I ensure that regardless of the Displaylink monitor's existent it uses the laptop screen as the primary. While at it how do I fix this installation, the last time this happened I had to re-install from scratch, that was back on Ubuntu 16.04, and I can not do that while traveling. Thanks, ERIC |

Fixed it by removing from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-displaylink* and rebooting
