Same issue for me
My symptoms are identical. My OS recognizes the monitor and behaves as though it's working (shows up in Displays ), but there's no image on the monitor, and DisplayLink doesn't seem to be running when I run lsusb as described in the tutorial. I have the Asus MB169C+, which should be equivalent to the MB168 in this context. The display uses Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C. This is the second ASUS MB169C+ monitor I've tried so it's unlikely to be an issue with the monitor. I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 on a 2017 XPS 13 (Developer Edition). I've attached the output from your support tool. Thanks!

@jimmycleveland: MB169C+ is not a device that would use DisplayLink technology, so as such is not equivalent.

Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised to hear that. Could you help me understand why that's the case? I'll admit, my understanding of this subject is a bit cursory, so if you could explain a bit it might help me diagnose the actual problem, or at least conclude that my efforts are futile. Thanks!
