Except for the official support on Linux, I'd be using a DisplayLink device on an embedded Linux project I work on. It's a simple as that for us.

Free hardware goes a long way in the Linux community. If DisplayLink could seed some to the distribution vendors, who could in turn parcel them out to developers... that could be the right route to...
