Problems with Dell D3100 and Inspiron 13 7000 2-1

1 Attachment(s)
Dear team,

since hours I am trying to get the Dell D3100 docking station to work. I can use it as USB hub and network adaptor, but have not managed any screen output. I have tried several versions of the drivers, reboots, and so on.

On the USB3.0 port of the computer, with the USB 3.0 cable, the dock is NOT recognized as a USB Graphics device. It works for the mouse, but also not as an Ethernet adaptor.

Using a 2.0 port or the 3.0 port with a USB 2.0 cable, the device is recognized as USB Graphics Adaptor twice, but no screen output is possible.

I have run the support tool in this stage, connected via USB2.0, the display directly via HDMI to the laptop. File attached here.
Any help appreciated - I would love to use the dock rather than giving up and sending it back...

Best,

Hello,

Thank you very much for the logs, this is helpful.

There seems to be a fault with your particular unit.
One chip is missing from the USB and the dock can't work without its companion chip.
I am unable to know if the unit was damaged during transport or in any other way, but only chip B is present, and chip A is missing. I do know the manufacturer test them before they leave the factory.

I recommend you request a replacement from the manufacturer (Dell) or the seller.
Feel welcome to point them to this message to avoid unnecessary discussion about the driver with your contact.

Kind regards,
Alban

Very helpful

Dear Alban,

that is very helpful feedback and saves me hours. Also, it gives me confidence trying anew with an exchanged unit!

Thanks a lot, good job here!
