Success Report! 2.4b1 Mac OS X 10.10.2

I have done my fair share of complaining about the drivers... I just wanted to let other know I have had Great success with 2.4b1... I'm running 3 Startech usb2vgapro devices and Mac OS X 10.10.2. The displays remember their location. There is almost no flicker on the displays. Login screen now functions properly. This release, at least for me, is the most stable I've had so far. Keep up the good work Displaylink!

I must agree, I use two Philips monitors with built-in DisplayLink chips and finally, display arrangement is kept, and I can't recall having seen any flicker since using this beta (besides the transparency goofs that come with Yosemite and accelerated animations).

One thing I'd thought I'd share, is that I get the feeling (haven't measured it), that the screens seem to behave a bit slower and that on some, not all windows, there are tiny transparent squares on all four corners.

2.4b1 on Mac Mini late-2012. 3 displays (1 hdmi, 1 mini-DP, and 1 usb3 Plugable DL-3500) Mac OS X 10.10.3 (14D113c)

Dragging windows around on the Displaylink screen is extremely slow/laggy but it is more or less 'stable'. The glitchy corners seem better with this release and most apps show the rounded/transparent corners now. Not sure if performance will increase or if it's possible to get even close to the performance we see on Windows but as of now I avoid putting windows on the 3rd monitor because its so slow) Glad to see progress being made with these newer drivers but there is still a long road ahead it seems.

A few weeks later:

- dragging windows, or window animation is very slow/laggy.
- glitchy corners on 10.10.3 seem gone.
- performance could still be improved.
- occasional high CPU usage by WindowServer, followed by DisplayLinkManager.
- have had some complete freezes of all desktops (including builtin on MBA), unplugging both DisplayLink devices and waiting a minute will resolve the freeze. In one occasion a forced power off was needed to get MBA working again

All items are with 10.10.2, except that one for the glitchy corners.

Ever since upgrading to 2.4b1 on my OSx 10.9.5 I get this every second in my console:

15/04/12 5:31:45.139 PM WindowServer[261]: *** LOG MESSAGE QUOTA EXCEEDED - SOME MESSAGES FROM THIS PROCESS HAVE BEEN DISCARDED ***

15/04/12 5:32:46.199 PM WindowServer[261]: *** LOG MESSAGE QUOTA EXCEEDED - SOME MESSAGES FROM THIS PROCESS HAVE BEEN DISCARDED ***

15/04/12 5:33:47.135 PM WindowServer[261]: *** LOG MESSAGE QUOTA EXCEEDED - SOME MESSAGES FROM THIS PROCESS HAVE BEEN DISCARDED ***

Anyone else have this?

Indeed, I see that too. I'm on 10.10.3 with the 2.4b1 driver

Other than the following issues, the driver has been extremely stable:
  • Changing system time (from System Preferences or via Terminal) locks up DisplayLink monitors. (Already reported in a different thread)
  • One monitor out of 8 isn't detected if the monitor is in power-saving mode. As soon as the monitor is turned off and on, then I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, it's then detected and functions properly. Not a huge deal, just an annoyance.

Other than that, I've been using the 2.4b1 drivers for over a week on 8 monitors (4 native, 4 DisplayLink.) It's a bit sluggish, but a heck of a lot more stable than previous versions of the Mac driver...and dare I say...the Windows drivers. I'm also running Parallels w/ Windows 2012 R2 in Coherence mode across all 8 monitors with zero issues.
