'Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)

Having trouble with a Asus USB 3.0 HZ-1 Docking Station and a Asus UX51ZA ultrabook running Windows 8.1 64-bit

No network connectivity or monitors working.
When I go into Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers >
There is this, 'Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)'

I've tried drivers from Asus site (7.6M1) and DisplayLink directly (7.6M2) and have used the DL_install_cleaner available on the DisplayLink site as well.

We had issues a couple weeks ago... fought with it for a bit, I think the last thing I tried was uninstalling the DisplayLink software, then used the DL_install_cleaner then re-installed the 7.6M1 software from the Asus site... it's worked fine for a couple weeks but is acting up again. Is there an issue with this software and Windows 8.1 64-bit? To me it doesn't seem like a hardware issue... is there firmware updates?

Hi,

Does this always happen? Or only after a specific event?

As soon as the issue is seen please attach the output of this tool:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=269
Once downloaded, please run it and select "Gather Support Information"

When you reply please select "Manage Attachments" from the "Additional Options" section below.

From there select Upload and navigate to the output of the tool which will be in a folder called "DisplayLink Support Files" on your desktop.

Thanks,
James

Hey,
Thanks... It does always happen, I fought with it a couple weeks ago and and it worked for the past couple weeks, but late last week it acted up again and haven't been able to get it to work.

I actually came across the tool after I posted, so I have gone through those steps and submitted the logs.

sorry I should have maybe been more clear... it worked fine up until a couple weeks ago... then stopped working altogether, I fought with it and finally got it working... has worked fine after that until late last week. Now I can't get it to work...

Hi,

Can you try these steps?

1. Uninstall DisplayLink software
2. Download and run the Cleaner tool from here:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=297
3. Download and install the latest Intel graphics driver from here:
http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ult...Desk_Download/
4. Download the latest Windows Updates
5. Install the latest DisplayLink 7.7 beta 2 driver from here:
http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63297

Thanks,
James

Unfortunately the same error, I've submitted the logs

Anything else I can try?

Hi,

I've been through the logs but there is no sign of the dock appearing.

Here's my suggestions:
1. In the latest set of logs there is no sign of an attached monitor. Can you try a different video cable?
2. Try a different USB port on your notebook
3. Try disconnecting your dock, power cycling it and reconnecting it

If you get nowhere with that please try the following:
1. Uninstall DisplayLink software
2. Run the cleaner tool from here:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=297
3. In your BIOS try disabling the Nvidia GPU (if there is no option for that then disable the Nvidia GPU from within Device Manager)
4. Install v7.6M2

Thanks,
James

Same here with ASUS Zenbook UX32VDA. All of a sudden, unknown device and cannot switch to external display and unknown USB device is listed. Perhaps it is related to a Windows update because recently new updates were shipped. Did exactly what you did including clearing the driver using DisplayLink tool. No effect at all. Submitted a ticket to ASUS as well but I would assume the ship producer should have better ways to determine the issue apart from trial and error.
Driver service appears to be running, in my case, but no taskbar icon is showing, allowing me to switch. I can use windows own display switch functino but it stops after a while telling me it could not find an external display attached. In addition, using windows display setting display identification, it appears windows does notice some display but cannot make any sense of it.
Any help from DisplayLink would appreciated. I would hate refreshing my workstation from scratch just because of a driver conflict.

Hi,

Is there a later BIOS version you can try?

Thanks,
James
