Does DL driver work with macOS latest update

UPDATE 10 Nov 21

DL 1.5.0 on macOS 12.01 occasionally would move or swap between screens my opened windows when is waking up from sleep hence have to wait for all screens to wake up properly before logging in. One of DL monitors keep resetting its set background clolour back to default image from time to time. My MBA 13 M1 has also crashed a couple of times i.e. it completely froze, briefly flased pink-ish colour then rebooted. I've had this once or twice prior upgrading from Bug Sur and previous DL version but now it had happened 3 times last week. Apart from that no other issues.
UPDATE: 04 Nov 21

Updated to macOS Monterey 12.0.1 on MBA M1 and so far all is working fine if not better with DL 1.5 Release: 1.5 | Sep 8, 2021 (still no screen rotation on M1).

UPDATE: 03 Nov 21

My 3 monitors are working as before on 11.6.1. I'm not using screen rotation as I have converted my setup of Dells 1 x 49 " + 3 x 25" to horizontal so please test and let us know although from this thread it appears screen rotation is still not working on M1 machines - https://www.displaylink.org/forum/sh...2844#post92844.

UPDATE 28/07/21

Just updated macOS to 11.5.1 and my 1 x Dell 49" native and 3 DL monitors are still wortking fine (using in horizontal mode). There's been occasional macOS crashes for the past 1.5 months though but am not sure if this is DL or just macOS related (no time to dig deeper atm).

PREVIOUS UPDATES

Just updated my macOS to 11.4 with DL 1.4 installed and all is working well on my 3 x 2K monitors via DL driver apart from missing screen rotation options in Preferences > Displays for my DL monitors hence couldn't test it. However, one user reported no HiDPI above resolution 1920x1080 as below:

Low res 4k is available but other than that no other HiDPI resolutions above 1920x1080.

11.2.1 seems to be fine with Displaylink 1.2

davss 02-16-2021 11:04 AM

I can confirm DLM 1.3.0 (Build 56.111) M1 native is working fine on macOS 11.2.1 (20D74) on MacBook Air 2020 M1.

The screen rotation still hasn't been fixed.

I'm using Big Sur Beta 11.3. New driver is not working with this OS. I have a MacBook Pro and an Acer monitor. All was fine before I installed the new 1.3 driver. Tried going back to 1.2 driver and still no display on my Acer.

davss 03-22-2021 04:35 PM

I'm currently on macOS 11.2.3 (20D91) and DL driver 1.3 using the following monitors:

3 x Dell U2515H via DL drivers and StarTech USB 3.0 to DisplayPort External Video Card Adapter 2560x1600 USB32DPPRO hardware
1 x Dell U4919DW via provided by Dell bi-directional USB-C cable (it's the only allowed native external display up to 6K and is charging my MB Air M1 2020 at the same time even when turn off the monitor - there's settting in the monitor that allows it / sort of power pass-though).

The above setup is still working fine and only very occasional wake up from sleep problems.

Cheers,
David

ps. thanks for confirming Beta problms - will avoid updates until confirmed working by others.

geffsta 03-26-2021 02:09 AM

Latest update to Big Sur beta on March 24th and again, not working with Acer Monitor on my MacBook Pro.

davss 04-26-2021 08:39 PM

Can anyone confirm current DL driver works fine on M1 on macOS Big Sur 11.3 11.3 before I press Install Now button?

Cheers,
David

BHedges 04-27-2021 02:37 AM

I installed Big Sur 11.3 on MBpro M1 and now DL only allows 1920x1080 on an LG 4K screen  So I'd say no. Annoying as its been in Beta for ages, no warnings from DL...

pjl 04-27-2021 06:42 PM

I confirm the following configuration works including clamshell mode. I have three monitors - 2 x 24" 1080p via D6000, 1 x 32" 1440p via Anker USB C hub

MacBook Ar (M1, 2020)
Big Sur 11.3
DisplayLink Manager 1.3.0 (build 56.111)
Anker USB C Hub, PowerExpand 8-in-1
Dell D6000

Below is how I connect them together.

MacBook Air =(via TB4 port)=> Anker with PD adapter, 1 x 1440p monitor, ethernet =(via USB C data port)=> D6000 with 2 x 1080p monitors

I hope this helps.

Same issue, Upgrade to Big Sur 11.3. I'm using Targus dual display 4K with HDMI and twin LG 4K displays Monitor is now showing 1920x1080 max using Display Link. Was working Great for months before Big Sur upgrade last night.

davss 05-04-2021 10:11 AM

Just letting you know some people are reporting problems with 4K resolution on DL 1.3 and Apple macOS 1.3.X update:

https://www.displaylink.org/forum/sh...ad.php?p=91797

I'm holding off my 1.3.1 update until people confirm all is working 100% and all resolutions are supported properly.

Cheers,
David

pjl 05-04-2021 04:39 PM

I just updated to 11.3.1 this morning. It is working fine with two 1080p and one 1440p (total 3 monitors) via Dell D6000 and Anker USB hub. All refresh rates are 75Hz. Clamshell mode is working correctly, too.

kuros33 05-04-2021 06:06 PM

I can confirm, that DL 1.3 does NOT work with 4k Dell display on Big Sur 11.3.1 (checked on MBA M1), 1080 is the highest resolution available on the list

davss 05-04-2021 09:09 PM

I just took the risk and updated my macOS to 11.3.1 + DisplayLink Manager 1.3.0 (Build 56.111) - all is working well in clamshell mode (with the help of Amphetamine app) on Air M1 2020 i.e. :

1 x Dell U4919DW at 5120 x 1440px via single Dell's bi-directional USB-C cable that came with the monitor (this is the single allowed native external display) [top USB-C port, charging + video]

3 x Dell 2515H via UGREEN 10in1 USB-C hub and 3 x StarTech DL USB 3.0 -> DP adapters at 2560 x 1440 [bottom USB-C port]

It appears it's working fine with DL 2K but some users reported issues when pushing it to 4K and workarounds need to be done to use this resolution.

Cheers,
David

I might have been wrong though. RDM shows 1920x1080 HiDPI.

Xord 05-09-2021 04:38 AM

Mac Big Sur 11.3.1 (May 2021) update has broken the 4K resolution of my monitor (using DP interface) - I am not able to scale to anything more than 1920x1080 - using Plugable USB-C Triple dislplay 4K Docking Station

FYI: Prior to the update - using v11.3.0, it worked OK

From reading these forums, flipped the connection to HDMI - which DOES work to 4K resolution...
Ordered a DP to HDMI cable, and will report back if that works to 4K resolution.

I've just updated my Big Sur 11.3.1 to DL 1.4 and all is working fine on my 3 x DL 2K setup.

I've not tested screen rotation because can't see such option in Preferences > Displays anymore? Attached are the only options I'm getting:

davss 06-03-2021 09:14 PM

Hi,

Has anyone installed the latest macOS Big Sur 11.4 update yet?

Ta,
David

tommiy 06-04-2021 09:25 PM

Low res 4k is available but other than that no other HiDPI resolutions above 1920x1080.

100% BUMP

macOS 11.4 and DL 1.4 on M1 = rotation options gone.
why?

If DL 1.4 was suppose to improve rotation performance, I am going to assume that being able to rotate the display is a prerequisite.....

Phillip Hoff 06-14-2021 06:05 PM

Updated to macOS BigSur 11.4 (with DL 1.3.0) late last week and just noticed my LG 4K display now shows a max resolution of 1920x1080. Updated to DL 1.4.0, but still have the 1920x1080 max resolution.

ScreamCZE 06-15-2021 08:31 AM

I can confirm that resolutions are cut just to the FHD and low res. 4K.
Is it known issue ? Any info about this will be highly appreciated.

Kuba

tommiy 06-15-2021 12:26 PM

Yes well known this is what it is with displaylink. There is no information on why this limitation exists and if its displaylink or an Apple issue. Its been this way for a long time.

Can anyone confirm macOS Monterey doesn't break DL Release: 1.5 | Sep 8, 2021?

Updated to macOS Monterey 12.0.1 on MBA M1 and so far all is working fine if not better with DL 1.5 Release: 1.5 | Sep 8, 2021 (still no screen rotation on M1).

All monitors are aligned correctly, settings/display arrangement are preserved when sleep/waking up as well as when closing and opening the lid. Will report as soon as discover any issues.

Same experience here - I saw a post on the DisplayLink ideas forum that the product roadmap has Screen Rotation on M1 Macs scheduled for release at the end of this month!

Fingers crossed for this being delivered on schedule.

Is this with a D6000? Several posts here have me holding off.
