Blank Screen w/ 5.2RC, Lenovo W500 w/ WinXP, ATI FireGL v5700

Hi all,

I cannot get my IOGEAR USB DVI card to produce anything onscreen (screen stays completely blank) when used with the DisplayLink 5.2 RC driver in Windows XP Pro SP3 with an ATI FireGL V5700 graphics card (computer is a Lenovo W500.)

The card appears to be detected/configured properly, as the DisplayLink tray icon appears. Nothing is ever shown on the external screen, no matter which settings I choose. The monitor can be successfully power cycled using the tray utility, but again, nothing is ever displayed on it.

The same card and driver work fine on another machine, which would lead me to believe that this is an ATI issue. I tried stopping the "ati2evxx.exe" process described here: http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=178 but this made no difference.

I have Lenovo's OEM ATI driver installed, which includes Catalyst Control Center, and can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-70366

The issue seems like it could be related to those described in these threads:
http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=120
http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=116
HOWEVER, my laptop is set to "discrete" (ATI) graphics mode in the BIOS display settings. When set to "integrated", nothing appears on the laptop's LCD at all, so I haven't tried testing "integrated" mode with the IOGEAR card.

I bought the card specifically to use with the laptop that's having the issue and am disappointed that it appears to so far be unusable.

Debug utility information ZIP file is attached.

Thanks for any help/suggestions you can provide!

I'm having the same exact issue with the new 5.2 release (DisplayLink-5.2.21675.exe).

Any thoughts/ideas about this would be most appreciated.

Hi Segfault,

I'm not really an expert in XP problems, but there are a couple of things you can try.

First stop the DisplayLinkService by going to Services (available from the Control Panel, Administrative Tools).

Then delete all the files you see in C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\Debug\.

Then go to Device Manager and extend the "Graphics adapters" entry. There you will see some instances of "DisplayLink Mirror Driver" and "DisplayLink Graphics Adapter". You should remove these, but NOT the ATI or Intel entries.

Now start the DisplayLinkService.

I would expect this not to fix the issue, but the logs now available in C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\Debug\ should be more useful. You should post them up here again.

Thanks,
Martin

Martin,

No, this didn't fix the issue.

I've attached the files in the debug folder to this post. I did notice some failure notices in some of the logs.

Hopefully these new logs will reveal something!

Sorry for the bump, but my USB DVI card is still unusable.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks!

Still no luck, but the issue seems related to this:

Hi Segfault,

Have you tried the IOGEAR device on another computer? Also, have you tried plugging a different monitor into the IOGEAR device?

Martin.

The device worked fine when connected to a different computer (Asus EeePC 1000HE) and a Dell monitor, but didn't work in the computer I'd like to use (Lenovo W500) when connected to the same Dell monitor, or to the alternate Dell monitor I'd like to use.

I knew all of that before posting here though; I did mention in my first post that the same card and driver worked fine in another machine (the EeePC.)

Thanks,

Segfault

Does this work for your, segfault - the solution Martin posted in my thread?

http://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=166

Not sure if the fix to my issue was Win7 only... perhaps it will work for you on WinXP?

I wish the solution were that easy. ;) Thanks for trying, though.
