Not Compatible with Windows 10 after 1607 Update

In an enterprise environment, when we have any version of DisplayLink installed (even the latest 8.2MO) under Windows 10 v1511, it works fine. If we run the enterprise update to 1607, when it comes back up into Windows it says that the DisplayLink software is incompatible with Windows 10 and has been removed. All files and "Programs and Features" entries still exist though. We have to run the uninstall from "Programs and Features", reinstall DisplayLink 8.0 (currently our approved corporate approved version) or 8.2 to get it working again, which both versions work perfect.

If we build a machine natively to Windows 10 v1607, then install DisplayLink v8.0 or v8.2, there isn't an issue. With over 10,000 machines currently on Windows 10 v1511, the "incompatible with Windows 10 v1607" will be problematic.

Any ideas on why it comes back as incompatible when we do the upgrade or a way to stop it from being reported as incompatible (which it isn't incompatible).

Thanks

Not Compatible with Windows 10 after 1607 Update

Infact we are receiving the same issue while upgrading to Windows 10 v1607. Can anyone provide suggestion on this?

Hello,

The removal of the old driver is normal, expected and programmed on purpose in collaboration with Microsoft... However, the message can't be personalised so there is the default message.

There are two driver architectures in the 8.0 package. Old Windows and Anniversary Update onwards. You may be using the same package version, but you are using a totally different driver on v1511 than on v1607 or v1703.
We are benefiting from changes in the OS which don't exist in previous versions to provide a much lighter driver, not needing to reboot and not having to work hand-in-hand with the primary graphics driver.
You will also be able to note that, on v1607 and newer, devices based on DisplayLink technology are presented with "Display Adapters" like Intel, nVidia, AMD... instead of a different category.

When you upgrade from v1511 or lower to v1607 or higher, your product using DisplayLink is probably working again transparently despite the message because the USB device driver is the only thing needed now, and it's picking it up from Windows Update. The "migration blocker" from Windows didn't allow to remove the add/remove programme entry.

Kind regards,
Alban

Ok, thanks. So this is normal and expected behavior no matter which version of the DisplayLink driver we have installed on 1511. Once we upgrade to 1607 we have to do a reinstall.

Thanks, will advise the tech team.

This is normal, yes.
If your machines get Windows Update, you do not need to do anything.
The new drivers will be transparently installed during the OS upgrade without even the need to reboot to make them active.
