Display on USB adapter shows desktop when computer is locked

Hi there -- thank you for rolling out this new release and for listening to the users' request for f.lux support (main reason why I downloaded the Alpha)

I'm more than happy to report any bugs I encounter, so here we go:

My workstation consists of

a. A Thinkpad X250 on a docking station
b. An HP 24uh screen connected with a DVI-to-Displayport cable to the docking station
c. A second HP 24uh connected with a UGA-3000 adapter to a USB 3.0 port on the docking station

My main display (=the one with the Windows taskbar) is (b) from the above list.

All 3 screens are on when I'm using the machine.

Problem: When I lock my account through windows (e.g. windows key + L), the screen that's on the UGA-3000 adapter remains on and unlocked, meaning I can still see everything that is on that screen, while the other 2 screens are displaying the familiar "Press ctrl alt del to unlock" message.

Bonus problem: I believe I've noticed an overall sporadic lag in performance of usb devices since the Alpha install. For example, the USB keyboard and mouse sometimes respond with a delay when I type or move the mouse cursor.

I'm attaching the logs from the tool -- hopefully it will help you roll out the next version.

Many thanks again!

Thank you for taking the time to flag this early, Wipika.

I've raised bug 25666 for the workstation lock issue as a blocker for 8.3, we can't ship that!

I have seen investigation around performance regression and it's under analysis at the moment. That's already a blocker (Ref 25647).

Because of the holiday period starting, it looks like 8.3 will be more second half of August. I'll probably get at least another alpha or a beta in July.

Kind regards,
Alban

Thanks for the fast response. I'm glad to hear that you are on top of these issues! Looking forward to the next release.

Wipika,
I've got a question from engineering on the delay.
Is the delay happening on the displays only on the DisplayLink displays or it also takes place on the graphics card display when also connected with a DisplayLink display?
This is to understand where the delay is introduced.
Thanks,
Alban

Hi Alban -- the delay happens in all displays when the displaylink adapter is connected. It's more of an overall performance issue -- and the strange thing is that I don't see any uptick in memory or cpu usage different than before the Alpha.

Hello Wipika,

I have been handed over a 8.3 development build for you.
We have disabled a part of the code which is believed to be the source of the multiple issues you have met: colour correction.

Would you please be able to test and confirm the issue goes away with that version?
This will confirm that engineering is looking at the right thing.

Kind regards,
Alban

Great, thanks -- will try now and report back with any issues.

Alban,

So -- no matter how many times I try to install the latest build you provided, it seems that the 8.2 version of the drivers gets installed.

I tried removing all the drivers manually, and even deleted the 8.2 drivers from the system32 and system32\drivers directories. Also completely disabled any internet connection so Windows wouldn't be able to pull any drivers from Windows Update.

Unfortunately none of the above worked -- I still get the 8.2 drivers when running the dev build you provided.

I'm sending you a detailed log and screenshots in a PM. Many thanks again.

Hello,
I am on holidays and don't have access to a Windows 7 machine now.
I've added your comment to the bug system and asked a colleague to follow-up with you.
The logs were missing the setupapi.*.log so they won't have details about what took place.
However, this should be easy to reproduce.
Kind regards,
Alban

Hi

The version of the driver in device maanger will be 8.2 still due to the way the dev build was made. Could you check what the version is in "Control Panel" ->"Programs" after upgrade? That should state 8.3 if it has worked successfully.

Thanks

Wim

Changes linked to f.lux have been found to be the root cause and were backed out.
The feature implementation has important flaws to be corrected before we think about releasing it.
