Black screen, 2019 MacBook Pro 13, dell d6000
I'm trying to get my new dell d6000 USB-C hub working but it appears to not detect monitors when using usb-c instead of usb-a. Peripherals work normally, mouse and keyboard included but the monitors receive no signal. I've tried using the hub on a friend's older MacBook, which had USB-A instead of USB-C, and it worked without any trouble whatsoever after installing the newest Mac drivers. I'm on the most recent version of Mac OS, 10.14.5.
I was also able to get this working on windows with USB-A, again- without much trouble, after downloading and installing the correct drivers. As far as I can tell, the only commonality in all of this that USB-A seems to work fine, and USB-C seems to be a broken mess, at least on the d6000. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. |
I am having a similar issue. Mac osx 10.14.6 with driver 5.2
The Mac does not detect anything at all when USB-C is connected from dock to MacBook Pro. How do we get the Dock to work with USB-C on the newer software? |
More details
For further clarification, when I did finally get the hub to work, it was with a 60hz 1080p monitor, over HDMI. I also tried it with a 144hz 1440p GSYNC monitor- this however did not work, at least not over display port. The hub was recognized in all cases, but only worked when plugged into USB-A.
|
If possible could you try it with USB-A instead of USB-C- that is, if you haven't already. I seems likely that this problem exists for everyone trying to use USB-C.

i have the same issue. went through support they said it was a hardware issue. however if i plug a windows PC into the same dock it displays no issues. so its cant be the hardware.
i did have it blip once and work, but hasnt worked since then. |
I don't have a usb-c capable windows pc, so I can't confirm. seems to me that it almost has to be hardware, although I can't see how. I took the usb-c end, swapped it out for usb-a on a friends macbook, and BAM- it worked immediately, no problems at all.
its a real shame. This thing was supposed to solve my display problems... instead it created more. Probably just going to return it and deal with only having 2 monitors natively. |
I have tried all different combination s and different driver downloads and I cannot get the DP to read as a screen at all. My brother has the exact same setup that I do but he is running Mac OS 10.14.3 and drive 5.1 and I'm running 10.14.6 and driver 5.2. This is frustrating and time consuming

Hi. I have been in contact with DisplayLink and they should be pushing a new driver eventually to hopefully patch this problem. From what I have found with my testing it is only a 13" 2019 Mac Book Pro problem and not a Mojave issue. To get it to work as intended I have found that if you do a SMC reset every time you plug the dock in and it should work fine until its disconnected again. Hope this helps.

MacBook Air 2013
Hi,
I got the monitor set up last night but today, besides the initial home screen flashing for 4 seconds when I plug it in it is not working today? Any ideas? Tried SMC reset, different USB A drive ... Reloaded the driver ... Nothing! |
I am having the same issue. I upgraded my macbook pro 15" 2017 this weekend to OSX Catalina GoldMaster and the newest DisplayLink beta driver. Using USB-A dock to USB-C Macbook.
Mionitor stays black. I am using 'Disable Monitor' application to set my resolution, this program can see the monitor, set the resolution, but still it stays black (not active, going to sleep). |
Same issue with 5.2.1 and 5.2 on macOS Catalina.
2016 MacBook Pro (non-touchbar) and Dell D6000 with USB-C to USB-A adapter attached to a powered hub. The issue is fixed for me by uninstalling 5.2(.1) and reverting to 5.1.1 With the old 5.1.1 driver I have both screens available and working the same as it did in Mojave. Tried lots of things with 5.2 and 5.2.1 to no avail. |
reversed to driver 5.1.1, My 4K monitor is now working, but the resolution is off. I can't see the dock, its somewhere below my monitor.. I guess I have to wait for the updated driver..
|
Reversed to 5.0.1, now everything seems OK on Catalina

I am having the same issue on my Dell 2400: the system sees the monitor--the dock even moves to that window--however, the screen stays black.

Hi.
First of all. There is new macOS DisplayLink 5.2.1 beta 2 driver. Please make sure to have it installed: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1433 Secondly, Can you please follow that instructions? Does any of them helps you? https://support.displaylink.com/know...ing-permission https://support.displaylink.com/know...lay-is-working https://support.displaylink.com/know...-functionality If you still have issues please gather diagnostic information and attach them in the post. Please use our support tool: https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?d=66 I would be grateful for output of terminal command: sudo kextstat | grep DisplayLink |
Tried it all, kext file stays unloaded.

Updated driver to the new beta, black screen still the same.
monitor is detected, but goes to sleep 'no input detected'. output kextstat: 42 0 0xffffff7f8276c000 0xc000 0xc000 com.displaylink.driver.DisplayLinkDriver (5.0 (31)) 4E4C9A34-2960-3AC0-8BB7-861686561DAB <41 13 6 5 3> ran the information tool, see attachment for details/output. \ |
I think I forgot one step. https://support.displaylink.com/know...r-only-one-mon
running the kextcache command in recovery mode. Have done that now, including installing the new version. Kextstat now displays: 174 0 0xffffff7f83de0000 0xb000 0xb000 com.displaylink.driver.DisplayLinkDriver (5.2 (48)) A3EFB07A-5F72-3214-8C15-5F645B87E0CF <114 13 6 5 3> which says version 5.2 driver. Will be testing tomorrow when I'm back at work. |
Everything works fine now :-)

Same here, all fixed. You need to do the uninstall, reboot to recovery, run the kext terminal command and then reboot and install the 5.2.1 beta 2 driver... Takes a few min but worked like a charm.
Note - The d6000 still wont work for me unless I use it with the USB-A adapter, but i suspect that's a Dell firmware and power management issue. I ALWAYS have my screens flash after about 5 min from when I first plug in the D6000. If I am using the USB-A adapter, it all comes back in a second or two, if I am using USB-C, it might come back, but generally the light on the Dell D6000 turns orange and it all just stops working. Switch to USB-A. all good again. |
I am having similar problems and mine have not been resolved using any of the FAQ suggestions or suggestions in this forum post. I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) with Catalina installed. I am running an Elgato Thunderbold 2 dock, with three Samsung monitors attached, one via a Kensington DisplayLink. I have managed to get rid of the black screen on the DisplayLink monitor, but now all it does is mirror the main monitor. I cannot get it to run in extended mode, as it did before the Catalina upgrade.

Could someone please advise? I have a macbook air 2018 the one with two usb c ports only. Im looking to connect to two external monitors.
I have read mixed things about the dell d6000 dock. Does someone know of this will allow to connect the macbook air to two screens? Thank you so much in advance! Quote:

Did DisplayLink fixed this issue ? i currently own a 2019 13 inch macbook pro with "Catalina" and was planning to do a triple monitor setup. will D6000 work ?
|
We have identified that part of Dell D6000 docks produced between mid 2018-mid 2019 contains USB Hub firmware issue that was uncovered by macOS Catalina 10.15.1 release.
There is a for that. Please update your dock hub using "Dell Firmware Update Utility": https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk...sal-dock-d6000 |
