How to switch between HDMI and Headphone

Hi,

I want to know if it's possible to switch between the available Audio Outputs (HDMI and Headset)?

By default if HDMI and Headset are both plugged in, Sound comes from Headset. If the Headset is removed, Sound comes from HDMI. Is it possible to switch between this Outputs on Software Level instead of plug in/off the Devices?

I think a similar question was asked by dillongilmore here unfortunately left unanswered.

Hello,

It depends on the product and how the manufacturer has configured the chip.
Some products have a headphone and a line out jack:
- Headphone usually disable the audio output on all monitors
- line out keeps the audio output on other outputs.

Windows hasn't allowed to play the same content simultaneously to several devices, so they are all playing by default. (That, and presenting 3 video, 2 jack outputs would be overwhelming).

Kind regards,
Alban

You mean the chip of the soundcard in the connected computer?

I didn't get it. How do they play all by default if it's not allowed by Windows to play on several devices?

Would it be possible under Linux (if the soundcard is able to handle it)?

Sorry for my stupid questions. I just want to get behind this concept :)

There's no stupid question!

We only present one audio device to the computer. We then do the sound distribution within our chip in the docking station.

I'm talking about the DisplayLink chip in the docking station.
Reading again your first post, the manufacturer implemented "headphone privacy" mode. When you add the headphones, it is detected and disables the other outputs. That behaviour is factory programmed by the manufacturer and cannot be amended by software.

Do you have another audio jack on the product. If so, that second audio jack is likely NOT to cut other outputs, but again, that's hardcoded, you cannot select via software.

The behaviour will be the same on all operating systems.

Kind regards,
Alban

Ah, now I understand it much better. So as long as I only have the two Headset Interfaces (Mic and Headphone) it will be ether use Headset or HDMI. Thanks a lot for your answer!
