What latency should I expect?
Hi,
I ordered this adapter: StarTech.com USB 3.0 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter 4K 60Hz, DisplayLink Certified, Video Converter with External Graphics Card - Mac & PC (USB32DP24K60) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works pretty well and I have no complaint when using it for work. However, I noticed when trying to play a game that there is a considerable latency. There is no FPS drop, I'm getting over 100FPS, but it still feels like there is maybe 500 millisecond delay from my mouse (which is connected directly to the laptop) and the image moving. It feels so close to 'playable' but it's not really. Is it expected? Config: Windows 10 (Up to date) Alienware M17 R4 (2021) Nvidia RTX 3080 (Drivers are up to date) i7-10870H (with Intel UHD 630) I'm also using this adapter because i'm using HDMI 2.0 port. https://www.amazon.ca/Displayport-WA...1954701&sr=8-5 Monitor is an MSI MAG342CQRV |
To some degree, it is expected. DisplayLink is mostly suitable for office work. While gaming, from my experience, is possible it depends on many factors.
Maybe try gaming in (borderless) windowed mode, if you are using fullscreen mode. |

The game output is butter smooth, it's only that it appears delayed by 500ms. Would there be the same latency with this one ? https://www.amazon.ca/WAVLINK-Ethern...126554&sr=8-11 |
