Issue with a Startech.com dockingstation

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with a Startech.com dockinstation (model usb3sdockhd)

https://www.startech.com/en-us/cards...rs/usb3sdockhd

and a HP notebook model HP ProBook 640 G5.

This docking has two monitor output ports, one HDMI and one DVI. When using the HDMI output to connect it to a HP monitor model EliteDisplay E232, I have random disconnections and flickering, while this doesn't happens when using the a VGA cable connected to a DVI-VGA adapter (the display doesn't have the DVI input port).

I'm using the last DisplayLink drivers 10.1.2762.0. Also tried to uninstall with the DisplayLink remove driver utility and install again.
The notebook has the last BIOS installed.

I have tried with another HDMI cable and the problem is still present.
Currently I've plugged the HDMI cable to the notebook port and it seems to work well.

Can anyone help me to solve the problem?

Thanks

I believe DisplayLink misspoke in regard to the link they provided. That information is for macOS, while it appears that the original poster is using Windows. The appropriate link for Windows users is here --> https://support.displaylink.com/know...to-displaylink

Hello,

Thanks for the answers.
I've probably managed to narrow down the problem a bit: the last time the problem showed up, I was watching a movie in streaming: then I've unplugged the ethernet cable and turned the wireless LAN, on and the monitor stopped flickering.

So it seems to me that the problem could be in the ethernet port but somehow it also reverberates on the HDMI port.

I've also asked for support to Startech.com and the support guy suggested to buy a DVI-HDMI connector, since the problem doesn't seem to happen when the HDMI port is not used; and so I've done.

I've been using it for a couple of days and the error didn't happen. Should the problem rise again, I will collect the logs and post them here.

Thanks again.

edit: among many resources found on the Web, this one seems relevant to me

Don't know it this chipset isn't capable to recover network errors or my docking station in particular has a problem, but after a couple of weeks without seeing any issue, I consider it as resolved.

Update: after thee weeks the issue has happened again.

I don't like the idea of using the Ethernet port on the notebook but maybe it's the only solution available (other than using the wi-fi network).

Any suggestion?
Thanks.

Hello,

Is the Ethernet the only one having issues?
Do you see other issues as well?

Best regards,
Katarzyna

Hello, the problem I think is in the ethernet adapter but it somehow "resonates" even in the monitor connection since when the link goes down also the monitor starts to flicker.

IMHO the problem is in the DL-3900 chipset.
But, as far as I understand, DisplayLink doesn't release any firmware upgrade.
