Dell UP3214Q stuck at 30hz over DP!

Hello,

I have a Dell UP3214Q, 4k screen connected via DisplayPort to a D6000 (over USB-C).

Windows will only allow selection at 30hz in 4k resolution!

I have tried:

A different display port cable
A different display port connection on the monitor
The other display port on the d6000
Disconnecting everything else
Changing the default display driver to the Dell ones (for the monitor)
Re-installing windows
Checking the monitor is in DP1.2 enabled mode.

I also tried the monitor on a different computer with DisplayPort, and it works fine at 60hz so I do not thing its the monitor.

Any ideas anyone!

That is peculiar: the monitor does NOT show 4Kp60 as supported in the monitor EDID information.

Could you cross-check the monitor settings? What type of cable do you have between the dock and the monitor? (connector type on each end) The reason I'm asking is the EDID is consistent with HDMI 1.4 so used with HDMI or DP++ modes.
4Kp60 would be higher than the advertised max clock rate of 300MHz. So both are consistent.
Unless the EDID allows higher, we won't try higher.

Hi Alba,

Thanks for coming back to me.

I have two DisplayPort cables, a full size DP to DP, and a full size DP to miniDP. I tried both.

See the attached images that show how this is connected. This shows the method of connection and the resolution/refresh as reported by the monitor. You can also see the monitor is on DP1.2 mode.

Since my previous post I did some more testing.

I bought a Thunderbolt to DP adaptor, and it works at 4k60hz (obviously on the same monitor/computer), which is odd based of you saying the EDID is wrong.

It's getting increasingly peculiar then.
The EDID received may be different.

Would you please be able to connect the monitor in a way making it work at 4Kp60 and use a utility to capture the EDID you get?
If so, the utlity I could recommend is DumpEDID.
DumpEDID.exe > c:\temp\edid.txt gives a text file with the output I could look at.
If you need more details on how to run that, do not hesitate to ask.

So I reconnected the Thunderbolt to DP adaptor, then DP to DP, 4k60 works.

EDID dump attached, along with a photo of the monitor status.

There's no 4Kp30 and there's no 2560x1440, most notably.

Looking at this monitor user guide, there's a * about its implementation pages 10 and 11.
* To display 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz, DP1.2 must be enabled and the DP source’s
graphics card must be DP1.2 certified with MST feature, capable of supporting
resolution up to 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz and its driver supports DisplayID v1.3.
It looks like it is using dual streams to achieve 4Kp60 instead of a single stream, hence why it requires DP1.2 with MST (Multi-Stream Transport). The product is DisplayPort certified, without MST as MST is mostly used to split pixels (daisy chaining displays), not join them up in one panel.
The reason for the different EDID is because of the second part of that sentence: DisplayID. That's a different EDID format.

On page 36, it says it can handle HBR2... That's fast enough to handle a 4Kp60 over a single stream (or it wouldn't be able to handle it across split screens as MST doesn't create any bandwidth).

To sum up, this is unfortunately expected because of the requirements of 4Kp60 for this display don't match what is available on the docking station.
