D3100 with HP laptop no network
 

I just purchased a d3100 dock to use with my HP laptop (15-eh1070wm) as it doesn't have a wired network port. I installed the drivers & plugged in everything. I also have an USB drive plugged in the dock & it shows, so the dock is connected. The cable worked with a previous computer so it is not suspect. How is the docking system network capabilities identified in the hardware settings so I can diagnose more.

There was a previous thread (65923 ?) that the solution was for a beta-fix for a software bug in the driver software. Is that an option for me as well?
