Plugable USB3-6950-HDMI Adapter for Ubuntu 16.04?

Hello,

I wanted use a USB-HDMI adapter to drive my main monitor to my PC (Ubuntu 16.04) and looked at the Plugable USB3-6950-HDMI Adapter adapter and wondered if it was supported for Ubuntu 16.04?

On the link it says:

It is not supported with macOS, Linux/Unix or ARM based Windows operating systems (such as Surface RT).

If this isn't supported then any suggestions on what to get instead would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I've been looking through all the Plugable range and can't find anything that says it supports Ubuntu at all. The DisplayLink drivers do support Ubuntu, but if I was you I wouldn't take the risk. Depending on what your use case is (feel free to share your setup so that I can be more specific), I would choose the Dell D6000 universal docking station. If you check the User Guide for this dock, on page 6 you can see that it does indeed support Ubuntu operating systems.

Hopefully that's a helpful recommendation.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Mark,

Just found a few additional docks - the Diamond Multimedia Ultra Dock also supports Ubuntu and looks like it would fit your requirements. Also, this Lenovo Dock says that it is OS independent, but that's less specific, so I'm not certain on that one, but I suspect it would support Ubuntu. This Targus Docking Station states that it explicitly supports Ubuntu. So now you have a few options :)

Regards,
Andrew
