Linux Driver not working 14.04 Lenovo Laptop X1 Carbon
HI,
I've installed the driver but keep getting the following in dmesg. I've tried enabling/disabling the built in screen on the laptop but that didn't work. There are no errors in either: /var/log/displaylink/* /var/crash/*displaylink* Here is my dmesg: [ 16.430457] init: plymouth-upstart-bridge main process ended, respawning [ 16.438607] init: displaylink main process (1455) terminated with status 1 [ 16.438617] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.443924] init: displaylink main process (1459) terminated with status 1 [ 16.443933] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.448823] init: displaylink main process (1463) terminated with status 1 [ 16.448832] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.453419] init: displaylink main process (1466) terminated with status 1 [ 16.453428] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.458512] init: displaylink main process (1469) terminated with status 1 [ 16.458522] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.463227] init: displaylink main process (1472) terminated with status 1 [ 16.463237] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.470301] init: displaylink main process (1475) terminated with status 1 [ 16.470310] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.475308] init: displaylink main process (1479) terminated with status 1 [ 16.475321] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.480112] init: displaylink main process (1485) terminated with status 1 [ 16.480121] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.484732] init: displaylink main process (1488) terminated with status 1 [ 16.484741] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 16.490034] init: displaylink main process (1491) terminated with status 1 [ 16.490043] init: displaylink respawning too fast, stopped Kernel: 3.19.0-30-generic What to do? |
* What Linux distribution are you using?
* What driver version are you using? I just setup a display link docking station with an X1 Carbon gen3 on Ubuntu 14.04 with the 138 beta release and it kind of worked out-of-the-box. When i say kind of i am referring to known current issues: 1) The display link manger process drains ~ 50% of your CPU power (continuously!). 2) The link crashes occasionally and a reboot of the docking station is required (for me ~ once per hour). 3) The mouse flickers on the laptop screen if you use Unity (this problem is not present in Gnome 3 and Metacity). 4) If your turn of the Built-in Display (laptop display) weird things happen (in my case one of my external monitors is filled with artifacts). |
I'm on the latest 64 bit Unbuntu distribution 14.04.
I am using the 1.0.138 version of the displaylink driver. My displaylink device is a lenovo thinkpad usb 3.0 dock. When I run the extracted driver I see: xxxxx@laptop:~/Downloads$ sudo ./displaylink-driver-1.0.138.run Verifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing DisplayLink Linux Driver 1.0.138 100% DisplayLink Linux Software 1.0.138 install script called: install Distribution discovered: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS Installing Configuring EVDI DKMS module Registering EVDI kernel module with DKMS Building EVDI kernel module with DKMS Installing EVDI kernel module to kernel tree EVDI kernel module built successfully Installing x64/DisplayLinkManager Installing libraries Installing firmware packages Installing license file Adding udev rule for DisplayLink DL-3xxx/5xxx devices Starting DLM upstart job displaylink start/running, process 3861 But in dmesg I see the stuff I pasted in my first post: [ 363.916850] init: displaylink main process (3883) terminated with status 1 [ 363.916863] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 363.921943] init: displaylink main process (3886) terminated with status 1 [ 363.921957] init: displaylink main process ended, respawning [ 363.927535] init: displaylink main process (3889) terminated with status 1 [ 363.927544] init: displaylink respawning too fast, stopped |
If i plug out and plug back in the USB Dock I see this in dmesg:

Could this be due to the new hardware stack? I'm on 14.04.3

I installed 14.04.2 and everything worked ok. I think the issue is that 14.04.3 and the driver are not compatible.
|
works fine on 14.04.3 for me.
|
Ubuntu 14.04.5
I had to turn off secure boot feature in BIOS in order to get display port to work with Ubuntu.
